" There is no soul in machines only in the hearts of man."
I started at age 13, pulling apart any thing that made sound to find away to make it sound bigger and better. It consumed my life, much like a singer has to sing or he or she does not feel alive and fullfilled. I have to make that singer sound EPIC or I cannot sleep. I work for the love of the show and to bring all music and styles to their full potential. I pay homage to the origins of all the different styles of music by keeping the intent of the sound consistent AND BETTER than it's ever been heard.
I got my start when I was on the road nationally touring as a musician. I could not believe how horrible the $250,000 monitor rig we played through sounded. When I got off the road from that tour, I decided I could do better. I bought a little tiny rig, found a really crappy bar that was just opening up and worked every weekend for $75 a night for myself and my rig. I found myself in the worst room imaginable (low tin ceilings, all reflective surfaces, and a hollow stage in the corner.) My growth curve was very steep. As I got better, the bands sounded better, and we started packing the place. I just moved up from there and found myself working with the “Big Boys” by the next year. I once got called up from the crowd at a show for a very famous hard rock band because the monitors we’re feeding back and I was screaming out what frequency’s they were. It took they’re engineer three to four minutes to figure out that I was right. The tour manager witnessed this and asked me if I wanted to go on the road. What a trip! However, I turned that down. I have family and students here. While I still will do short tours, what I enjoy the most is working with all our great local artists and all the national acts that come through the tri-state area.
This is what we do here at the HOUSE OF SOUND. You can have all the greatest gear in the world, but if the person behind the controls does not have their heart in it, no computer controled analyzer machine is going to make you sound as great as you can. Humans will never be replaced because music is organic in nature and comes from the soul.
